Andy, an American expat who has lived in many different European countries shares her thoughts on the international education her children have received. In our interview, Andy describes the International Baccalaureate program, how her children made friends in new cultures and their global perspectives. Andy also provides thoughtful commentary on the concept of the "empty nester" parent. Focus on: vocabulary, two part expressions, the concept of "global," adjectives, past and present tenses, prepositions, and colloquial language.

Andy, an American expat who has lived in many different European countries, discusses her background, where she was born and grew up, her career in security and fraud control, moving overseas and giving up her career and the difficulties of leaving family and friends behind, the challenges of adjusting to a foreign country and how she reached out to make new friends. She also shares the joys of discovering new cultures. Focus on: Being born and growing up, families of words, using "to be able to," two-part verbs, past and present tenses, adjectives, colloquial expressions.

A South African Discusses His Roots

Bob, a South African, discusses his early years growing up under apartheid and the oppression of living in a police state. In this interview, you will hear Bob's South African accent as he describes the politics of that period of  time. Focus on the vocabulary of politics and civil rights and the difference between revolution and evolution.
